Ice Hockey: Marc just won't Levers us alone

Sunday, 16 December 2007

One of the most satisfying things for a hockey player is to come back to play against your former team and stick it to them.

Marc Levers isn't known for being an offensive threat but he can be a pest out on the ice and he's two for two against his former team.

There are other players that have moved on like Curtis Huppe or Jeff Hutchins that are more dangerous because they can score at will.

Marc has returned home to play for the Panthers and has been scoring some big goals for them.

A few months ago, he had the game winner with a laser beam of a shot to beat our former goalie Phil DeRouville. And in Friday night's nail biter, he did it again.

Surprisingly he took a crucial defensive zone face off in the last minute.

Thirty seconds later and he was again celebrating another game winner.

Well done Beaver, don't be surprised when we have two guys marking you next game.

Apparently there was some action in the stands as well between a gorilla and a muppet.

That's just what I was told. I don't think anyone on the ice knew what was happening.

Gordie the Gorilla is the greatest mascot in the league and gets the fans going, and has a little banter with the opposing players and fans.

It seems some Panther fan wasn't in the Christmas Panto spirit and let Gordie know it.

I have never seen a fan wrestle the mascot before but I hope that guy has a big old hangover.

Well, we are off to play Coventry tonight, which is a hard place to play, and once again they have cancelled a game the night before they play us.

The only team in league that gets away with it year after year. And ironically it's always when they play us. Hmm.

We are still climbing the table and far from first at the moment and they still fear us. I guess that's a good thing. We just need to go in there and stick to our game plan and steal two points from them like they did a couple weeks ago at our barn.

You all heard about Carlyle Lewis cutting his leg in Edinburgh.

Luckily there was no muscle damage so he'll be back before you know it.

And our other Lewie made his return from a hand injury this week, which is perfect timing.

This is a big month for us, so keep up the support and we'll get you some victories.
