Motorsport: Super James Tose the line
Sunday, 17 June 2007
World Superbike Championship leader James Toseland hopes to put a difficult opening to the San Marino round behind him in today's two races.
The Honda rider has struggled over two days of qualifying at the Misano circuit but put that behind him with the fourth best time in the superpole session yesterday.
Toseland's team encountered difficulties on both Friday and yesterday but he made sure he got onto the front row of the grid with a fourth best time in superpole.
Yamaha Italia's Troy Corser was quickest with his team-mate Nori Haga in third and defending champion Troy Bayliss in second on the Ducati Xerox machine.
Toseland admitted not testing at the venue since its direction was reversed had handicapped his team.
"To be honest, we have really struggled for not having tested here," he said. "I went out on Friday and with the problems with the bike I knew it was going to be a long weekend.
"We had quite a lot of problems that were not easy to fix, but the team has worked really hard and I've really tried to concentrate on what the problems are so we didn't waste time making any wrong decisions.
"In the end we got it together, which was nice, and to get on the front row is a bonus. I just have to focus on tomorrow and I hope I can bring in the result."
Toseland leads Haga in the standings by 23 points with Alstare Corona Suzuki's Max Biaggi third a further 13 points back.
