So, this is why Calum missed Dickie's funeral
Sunday, 27 April 2008
The mystery surrounding Calum Best's non-appearance at his grandfather Dickie's funeral has been solved by Sunday Life.
For just hours before the funeral last weekend, randy Calum (27) was surrounded by stunning bikini-clad girls in a top London nightclub.
As our exclusive photos show, the son of Ulster soccer legend George Best attended the final of the Miss Hawaiian Tropic modelling competition last Friday night.
The following morning after a 9.30am funeral service in east Belfast, Dickie was buried beside his beloved wife Annie and son George at Roselawn.
Calum — who stood beside Dickie outside London's Cromwell Hospital in November 2005 to announce his father's death to the world's media — was notably absent from last Saturday's funeral.
The modelling event attended by Calum was held in the hip club Collection and consisted of 30 girls from across the UK dressed in just skimpy swimwear and killer heels being judged by a panel.
One of the competitors was Belfast's own Nina Raja (21) who came top of the regional heat.
Nina, who is currently in the running to represent the UK in a global Playboy Model 2008 competition, revealed how she and Calum had a friendly chat in the club last Friday evening.
The sultry Taughmonagh beauty said: "Some of the girls thought Calum was supposed to be a judge, but he was just part of the crowd in the club.
"He was walking around mingling and talking to all the girls and having a few drinks.
"I had a chat to him about why he couldn't be a judge. He said the organisers thought it wouldn't really be a good idea because of his reputation as a bit of a bad boy.
"He was perfectly charming and he seemed to be enjoying himself."
Sunday Life contacted Calum's agent about his non-attendance at Dickie's funeral, but he declined to make a comment.
Calum is set to lift the lid on his sexploits — including his fling with Hollywood wild child Lindsay Lohan — in new TV programme Generation Sex.
Other celebs due to feature on the streamy show will be Rebecca Loos and Emmerdale babe Adele Silva.
Meanwhile Nina, who works as a receptionist in a city centre beauty salon, entered the Miss Hawaiian Tropic contest several months ago. For Thursday's contest, Nina wore a sexy tiger-print bikini while for Friday's final she opted for a leopardskin one-piece. Even though she didn't win Nina said she had a "great experience".
