By George, what a show!

Twenty-five years after his first hit, thousands of Ulster concert goers celebrated the return of pop king George Michael to Belfast last night.

The Odyssey Arena was packed with thirty and fortysomethings, who danced the night away in the company of the man with the mightiest voice in pop.

In the words of one of his 11 UK Number One hits, he 'Knew We Were Waiting' for him... nearly 20 years after two planned King's Hall, Belfast shows had been cancelled at the eleventh hour.

But, ending the second leg of his marathon 80-date, 25 Live tour in Belfast, Michael made up for the two-decade long delay - with a truly spectacular two-hour show, featuring cascading, waterfall style video screens and a Jailhouse Rock inspired gantry set.

There were eye-catching arena rock stunts, as Michael took the mickey out of George Bush, with a giant inflatable US President getting 'friendly' with a British bull terrier during Shoot The Dog.

But it was that voice which easily outdazzled the stage effects - as it positively soared on an acoustic version of Praying For Time; a pin drop perfect Jesus To A Child and a crowd sing-a-long rendition of Careless Whisper.

The 44-year-old former Wham pop pin-up also reminded his Ulster fans that he is still Too Funky for his rivals on super cool groove workouts - Fastlove, Everything She Wants, Faith and closing number, Freedom 90.
