Goerge Best Burger!
Sunday, 10 June 2007
A GUT-busting burger is proving a Best seller with fast food lovers in Belfast. The latest menu signing at wacky fish and chip shop For Cod & amp; Ulster is a 'George Best' burger and it's flying out the door quicker than its namesake used to fly down the wing - much to the delight of owner David Kerr.
The young businessman dreamed up the cheeky combination of bird and beef and is challenging punters if they're man enough to tackle the bap star, which is advertised by a life-size image of the legendary footballer on his Albertbridge Road shopfront.
Said David: "We put the George Best sticker in the window just recently and since then it's become our Best seller by far, beating all of the other burgers and even the fish.
"I think that punters like it because it's particularly good value for money as you're getting a chicken burger, a burger, three baps, salad and sauce all together
"Everyone wants to get one to see if they can finish it off - or if it will beat them just like George beat so many of those defenders!"
The 21-year-old's takeaway is well-known for its eyecatching front shutters depicting Ian Paisley and Gerry Adams tucking into some fast food.
Such is its fame now that it's attracting customers from all over the plaice!
"I'm hearing all sorts of accents including Ballymena, Portavogie and Cushendall," said David.
"We are giving customers great food and we're also seeing them leaving with big smiles on their faces."
Other food on the menu include a range of French fries called David Healy 'Chips It In' and a massive 'King Billy's Family Feast' costing - you've guessed it - £16.90!
A range of fun merchandise including Teddy bears, mugs, T-shirts and chocolate is being launched.
And the enterprising David is hoping to open his second For Cod & Ulster outlet in west Belfast sometime next year.
