Knicker nicker not in best of elf, says wife
Sunday, 11 March 2007
Buho, the knicker-knocking elf facing jail over an armed raid on a Belfast lingerie shop, has disappeared back into the 'Shadows'.
For Buho - aka Robert Boyd (inset) - has gone to ground after his conviction last week for the terrifying knifepoint robbery of staff at the Orchid lingerie shop.
When Sunday Life called at the real world home of Boyd, the role-playing fantasist refused to come out to speak to us.
Boyd (45), a lab technician at Queen's University, claimed that he was unable to distinguish between reality and fantasy at the time he donned a blonde wig, glasses and armed himself with a knife to hold up staff at the Lisburn Road lingerie shop in December 2005.
He claimed he may have thought he was playing the part of a criminal female elf Buho, from the fantasy role-playing game Shadowrun, when he fled the shop with two sets of bras, pants, suspender belts and stockings.
Two consultant psychiatrists who gave evidence at Belfast Crown Court last week directly contradicted each other in relation to whether Boyd suffered from a condition that prevented him from distinguishing between reality and fantasy. And 10 jurors dismissed his elf defence and found him guilty, by majority verdict, of armed robbery.
Boyd's wife briefly spoke to Sunday Life at the couple's Carrickfergus home last Friday.
She told us: "After all the damage that has been caused, I don't think we want to say any more about the case."
When asked about her husband's bizarre behaviour and even more bizarre explanation, she added: "He's not well. He has not been well and is still not well."
Boyd will be sentenced at a later date, following the preparation of pre-sentence reports.
