Fashion: Join the ranks for colour party

Make a 'block' booking in time for one of summer's biggest trends and get ready to be conspicuous with bright and beautiful shades

'Colour block' is one of the fastest emerging trends set to be popular this summer.

A style that was not anticipated early on by trend forecasters, colour block fuses mass shades of cerise, cobalt blue, greens and yellows with a sporty edge.

Think bulky stripes on maxi dresses toned down by blocks of black or muted tones, or imagine vivid, submarine yellow pumps with a tame-toned outfit and matching accessories.

Carrying this trend off is all about being loud with colour and being conspicuous with summer's biggest tones - blues, yellows and pinks.

The high street chains are bargaining in on this look by stocking up on multi-toned dresses, bright, vivacious tops, and bravely, luminous jeans!

Wear it in accessories or go way out with body-con dresses that cling to your curves a la Christopher Kane, or wear in single form through smock dresses or leggings. The choice is yours.

Giving this trend a faster edge is the sporty theme that is featured in many stores this season.

Leggings with skirts and vests, or sporty shorts with classic one-toned T-shirts see colour become that little bit more playful.

Be wary though, as colour-block is a youthful trend, probably only suitably carried off by those in late teens to mid-20s, or those with enviable bodies.

If you are that little bit more mature but want in on the action, invest in block colour accessories instead.
